Here's one straight out of the box.
Electrical safety rules can vary from state to state. every electrician should check with their local electricity authority to verify compliance. A number of readers wrote to Electrical Gems expressing concern that the meter box/power supply tip using star pickets to support the meter box, may not comply with some state electrical safety regulations. On close inspection, the photo appears to show mechanical protection (the orange coloured underground conduit) going all the way to the board with the earth cable carried by the grey conduit. Our advice is that electricity safety rules can vary from state to state, therefore every electrician should check with their local authority to verify compliance.
Have you ever wondered if there was a way to better manage the establishment of power supply, cabling and meter enclosure installation at new building sites? Roy Mould gave it some thought and came up with a system that could be adapted to save time and money on a great many projects.
When building on a site with underground supply, Roy found an easy way to provide builders with both power supply and the meter box in its permanent position. The meter box can be positioned on posts screwed to 2 star pickets driven into the ground outside the footings (see picture). The back of the box then overhangs into the house area for the bricklayer to build directly into the wall. No relocation of supply at a later date is required. Star posts are easy to remove and the props are out of the way of bricklayers’ string lines. This also helps avoid multiple disconnect/reconnect service costs.
Thanks Roy, a nice piece of lateral thinking. No doubt sparkies can adapt this method to work on different building sites, in different situations. Even with overhead power? What do you think?
