A bending spring for when you can't find a bending spring
Here's a tip from David Evison that proves beyond doubt that necessity is the mother of invention.
If you ever find yourself without a bending spring, and you need to straighten conduits exiting a slab or bend larger conduits in tight radius bends, try using corrugated conduit, the next size down from the size you need to bend, as an emergency bending spring. Heat the conduit to be bent with gas or a hot air gun, insert the corrugated conduit before bending, and do the bend before the corrugated conduit has time to heat up. I have used 40mm corrugated conduit to bend 50mm rigid conduit, 32mm corrugated conduit to bend 40mmm rigid conduit, and so on.
One word of caution, though. Don't insert the corrugated conduit before you heat the rigid conduit, or you could have a mess on your hands.
Congratulations David. You have picked up a nice $250 cheque from the OLEX Cable Guy!
