A clever system for retrieving off-cuts of conduit
The tubes on top of your truck are a great place to store conduit. But unless you have a threaded cap at both ends, they can also be a great place for off-cuts to get stuck. If you can identify with this problem, Nick Rook may have a solution.
If you have ever had difficulty trying to extract short off-cuts of conduit from the bottom of the tube on top of your truck and found that it was irretrievably jammed, Nick Rook suggests you find a cylindrical object just smaller than the inside diameter of the tube but thick enough so it won’t twist in the tube when inserted (Nick used a round cut of timber).
Nick suggests drilling a hole in the centre of the cylinder and attaching a rope longer than the tube, which you tie off near the top. Then with a long length of conduit, push the cylinder to the bottom end of the tube. You can then load conduit of all lengths into the cylinder, and when you need to retrieve those short lengths you just pull on the rope and the cylinder will travel up the tube, bringing with it everything down inside the tube.
Thanks for sharing that with us Nick, and congratulations! You have just picked up an easy $250 courtesy of The Olex Cable Guy.
